2. willolux

Kristina Emmott, also known under the stage name “willolux,” is a Canadian singer/songwriter whose musical style blends classic 70’s folk with infectious modern dream pop. Her introspective, whimsical songs recall the work of songstresses such as Neko Case, Ingrid Michaelson, and Regina Spektor.

Emmott’s love of songwriting blossomed early on – she recalls wandering through the playground at age 8, humming melodies and constantly daydreaming about songs.

Her debut album as Willolux, produced by Jon Anderson (Andy Shauf, Aidan Knight, Twin Bandit), is a full-length album entitled Thread & Tape, released on June 23rd, 2017. It is a collection of wistful songs, at once fragile and bold, which bravely lays bare questions of self-love, healing, and mental health. Thread & Tape can be found on all streaming services as well as iTunes.

4. Emily Rockarts

With her catchy and endearing story based pop songs, Emily Rockarts is starting to catch on in Toronto’s crowded music scene. Her songs explore the wide eyed optimism of moving to new cities, the expansive depth of oceans, and the stratospheres of space.

Emily met Dan Rougeau (guitar – Flatrock, Midcoast), Soren Nissen (bass – Omni 3, David Occhipinti) and Ian Wright (drums – I Double You, Autobahn) while attending school at Humber College. Drawing on different backgrounds of rock, pop, jazz, and folk they’re working towards developing a cohesive sound that merges these influences.

“Mapmaker”, Emily Rockarts’ debut release from April of 2016, is a collection of songs that is as sweet and light hearted as it is thoughtful and full of longing. Emily’s music is artfully expressed through her captivating quartet. The music is honest, quirky, ever-changing and guarantees that no two shows will be the same.

After a successful east coast tour in promotion of “Mapmaker”, Emily is writing a new batch of songs, with the focus on a national tour, and the release of a full length album in 2018.

Dreamy singer-songwriter pop with a groovy attitude.
‘Healing’ is the second single from Patrik Jakubowski‘s cooperation with producer Mattias Tegnér and they continue their work to accompany Patrik’s superb singing with a more electronic and beat driven sound. With this new soundscape they have created a perfect vessel for Patrik’s voice to be able to sing a quite moody song about getting your shit together again after a break-up or loss of some kind but still maintain a positive vibe.

Forever Son Releases ‘Crumb Kitchen’

Forever Son is the project of Melbourne based singer-songwriter and guitarist Jack Robbins. Drawing inspiration from Crosby Stills Nash & Young, Daniel Rossen and Fleet Foxes, Forever Son’s sound is raw and free flowing with a splash of reverb.

Tracks imbue dreamy, coffee-fuelled mornings without the restraint of calculated thought. As for Forever Son’s rich, honey-soaked voice, The Band Review describes it as, “somewhere on a spectrum consisting of Jeff Buckley, Donovan and Devendra Banhart”.

Forever Son’s new Album “10 Months” is due for release in mid-2017.

Jack Skuller and The Skullers

The Skullers play their blues-soaked brand of modern rock and roll with a down-to-the-bone rockabilly soul. Hook-filled original tunes written by singer/songwriter/guitarist Jack Skuller could share a playlist with such bands as Black Keys, London Souls or the UK’s Hidden Charms. Live shows prove the band is just as comfortable covering a Little Walters blues swamp as they are playing classic punk from Richard Hell.

Frontman Jack Skuller’s songwriting and musicianship was recognized by the Songwriters Hall of Fame who awarded him the 2014 Holly Prize in tribute to the legacy of Buddy Holly. Jack’s 7” single debut at age 14 on indie label Bar/None Records set the stage for an authentic rock and roll teen life. Radio Disney took notice and sponsored a 15 city tour. Press paid attention as well with stories in the New York Post, Time Out New York, The Deli NYC, Teen Vogue and American Songwriter which said “It’s analog, vintage, and cool, but with a sincerity missing from a lot of the ironic throwback recordings of the hipster sphere. We sense a lot of potential in this budding songwriter.”

Jack Skuller’s past few solo singles on Mint 400 Records have received regular rotation on college radio. It’s only a matter of time before The Skullers become college radio staples.

The Skullers enter the studio this spring with four time GRAMMY nominated producer Joel Hamilton to record a debut EP planned for release on indie label Mint 400 Records in September 2017. Hamilton has worked with the Black Keys, Highly Suspect, Pretty Lights and Tom Waits among many others.

Tim De Graaw releases ‘Ivory’

After cutting his teeth in the LA music scene, singer/songwriter Tim De Graaw returns to London and announces his debut EP and opening track taken from it. Recorded at Westpoint Studios (UK) and mixed at the legendary Muscle Shoals (USA), ‘Ivory’ is the first track taken from the EP ‘Three Black Roses’ out now on all platforms including iTunes and Spotify.

timdegraaw_pic2

This one man musical powerhouse has drawn comparisons with John Mayer and The Black Keys due to his knack of blending beautifully constructed vocal melodies with blues-tinged guitar licks. Describing his sound he says: “I wanted to combine my guitar blues influence with my own songwriting style. With lyrics that are truthful, honest and poetic about my fight with depression, struggles in music, and the pitfalls of love”.

‘Ivory’ showcases Tim’s trademark poetic vocals and emotive guitar style all wrapped up in rock solid production from Antwerp based producer Jamie Evans (Reigning Days, Wildwood Kin) who has also recently worked at both Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals and Arlen Studios, Austin. Jamie adds: “The energy and feel he puts into his music is undeniable. His new material is a sure indication that his music is destined to fill the hole in many a record collection.”

Born in Johannesburg, South Africa (half Dutch and raised in the UK), there is definitely an international flavour to Tim’s music. After making his mark on the LA music scene in recent years, Tim now resides back in his spiritual and musical home in London. It was that period in LA where he cut his teeth both as a session guitarist and songwriter, finding major sync success with several TV placements on the hit comedy show Modern Family. Tim has previously co- written with upcoming artists and songwriters such Sarah Walk (Still Frames), Adam Friedman, Charlie Puth, Yori Swart, Pam Sheyne and Rich Jacques. Describing writing on his travels, Tim says: “I am always writing with an honest intention, wherever I go, to capture the moment and time I’m in. It reminds me of who I am and keeps me grounded”.
